For the next 2 days, we will be examining the general course of WWII in the Pacific and European theaters of action. You will be responsible for a short presentation on one of the turning points from this era. Class today was used for preparation for this presentation.

Advanced American Studies
Today, we resume classroom activities related to World War II. The focus for today is the homefront during WWII. In class, we are examining a number of primary sources, from old yearbooks to propaganda posters to cartoons.
Assignment: Read p. 473-478. Begin work on battle presentations.
American Studies
In class, we finished the documentary on the Navajo Codetalkers. After finishing the video, we discussed requirements for the WWII scrapbook project.
Assignment: Cover textbooks by Wednesday. Scrapbook will be due next Monday.

This week we will be conducting semester exhibitions in a joint exercise between history and literature class. Attendance will be extremely important. This week, take note of the following due dates:

Advanced American Studies Today we resumed discussion of WWII. To review, we began by examining the following questions:
Prelude to War: Discussion Questions (444-453)
- Describe the course of the war after Britain and France declare war in 1939.
- How were the British able to hold the line in the battle of Britain in 1940?
- Describe relations between the Germans and the Russian in the late 30's. How do they change?
- In what ways did America prepare for war in the late 30's?
- What problems were the Japanese creating in the 1930's?
- Why did the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor?
Next, we examined Pearl Harbor. Review the National Geographic Website for an overview of what transpired Dec. 7th, 1941.
Assignment: Complete Pearl Harbor Readings (Who was responsible?) by Friday.

In class today we viewed a video on the rise of Hitler and the path to WWII. Check out this website for key questions to think about while watching the film.

We will have one of the last work days for a number of weeks for National History Day. You should be thinking about beginning the process of putting a bibliography together and also developing your project.

Assignment: Read Ch. 14.1 (Dictators and Wars) and complete note taking handout.

In class, we finished the video entitled "Over the Edge 1936-41." After the culmination of the video, we reviewed key elements in Hitler's rise to power and the prelude to war in Europe. Finally, we took a quiz on those same elements.

After our trip to UWGB, make sure you are taking some time to organize the sources you found and begin to think about how your NHD project is going to come together!
Today we continue our discussion on the lead up to World War II. We will review our discussion of the rise of Hitler and focus now on what steps he takes gain what he termed "lebensraum" and what impact this will have on the stability of the world. As part of this, we will also take a look at the documentary "Over the Edge 1936-41".
Assignment: Read pgs 443-451. WWII Quiz #1 is slated for Friday.

We begin our study of WWII today with an examination of the rise of Hitler. We will discuss the failure of the Weimar Republic, Hitler's failed Beer Hall Putsch, and the rise of the Nazi party during the 1920's. We will also discuss his actions as leader, from the Enabling Act to the Invasion of Poland.
Assignment: Read text pgs. 443-450 "From Isolation to Involvement". Sequence timeline in notes (bottom of page 443).

Today we began looking at the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt, specifically the first 100 days of his New Deal. In class, we completed a graphic organizer on the First New Deal (p. 396-403).
Assignment: Complete 2nd New Deal organizer (p. 404-411).
